A standard firebrick is 9"x4.5"x2.5" and "splits" 9" x4.5 "x 1.25". Building codes require fireboxes to be a minimum of 2" thick. Standard colours are Buff and Red.
Firebrick and Mortar used in the construction of the Firebox are Code Compliant.
An Air-Set Refractory Mortar can only be used indoors.
A Hydraulically setting mortar is used outdoors as it is non-water soluble. It can also be used indoors to colour and widen mortar joints.
The average weight of each module is around 25 lbs. The firebox floor weighs approximately 75 lbs.
Shipping weight depends on the size of the Firebox. 550 lbs. is average
Before ordering, decide on the width and height of the Firebox Opening.
There is a direct relationship beteeen the size of the fireplace opening and the cross section of the flu inside the chimney. The venting system will also depend on the type of fuel being burned.
The depth of the firebox and the width of the fire-back will in turn infuence where the damper is to be placed.
The splay of the damper will determine the placement and lenth of the side walls of the firebox.
The previous " Installation " page gives an example of firebox placement.
Kits can be shipped Canada wide.
